He prepared the meat daily and Olga made the salads. The breads came from Pitcek Bakery. He sold the restaurant and later worked for Sanderson's Lunch.

He liked nice cars and owned a Buick, a Flint, and a La Salle at different times. On Sundays, after Mass, he would take the family out to lunch in the Flint. Joseph taught Walt to drive on the airport runway at the Fairfax Airport.

Josephine taught her brother Stan to drive a car. He hit a gas pump so their father made her pay for the damage.

In November, 1999, she underwent successful major surgery.

In 2003, Jo sold her house and moved to a retirement home. She lost most of her eyesight.

Josephine B. Harn (Cyhel) passed away Saturday, January 28, 2006 at St. Joseph Health Center. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, February 3, 2006 at Cure' of Ars Catholic Church, 9405 Mission Road, Leawood, KS 66206. Entombment in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Visitation will be 6-8 P.M. Thursday, Feb. 2nd at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, with rosary prayed at 7:00 P.M. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Church.

Josephine was born May 19, 1915 in Kansas City, Kansas, the oldest of five children born to Joseph and Olga Cyhel. She graduated from Redemptorist High School and Business College. She worked at O'Flaherty-Norman Real Estate prior to serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, as a Personnel Specialist, where she met her husband of 49 years, Don, who preceded her in death in 1992.

She was employed at Universal Underwriters for 20 years in the Workmen's Compensation Division. After retirement she worked as a volunteer in the Cure' of Ars Church office. She was also involved with the Churches Women's Club, Respite Care and Funeral Food Committees to name a few. She was an avid gardener and past member of the Johnson County Rose Society, having well over 100 rose bushes for which she won numerous trophies and blue ribbons. She came to be known as "the cake lady" because she created beautifully decorated 3 layer cakes, which she gave to friends and family for special occasions. She renewed friendships with old friends and made many new friends after moving to the Grand Court of Overland Park.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna J. Amato and son-in-law, Les Amato of Overland Park, KS; grandson, Devin Amato, his wife Alina and great-granddaughter Ava all of Overland Park, KS; sisters, Rose Lohoefener of Overland Park, KS and Florence Cyhel of Kansas City, KS. She was preceded in death by brothers, Stan Cyhel and Dr. Walter A. Cyhel. She was "Aunt Jo" to several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews as well. (Arrangements by: D.W. F. J. Smrz, who with his family has decided to move to Omaha, disposed of their business connections and their property holdings at Leigh. Mr. and Mrs. Smrz purchased a home in north Omaha. The house is located half a block from the school which their son, Dickie, attends.

An agreement has been reached between Mr. Smrz and his business partner, J. O. Moeller, by which Mr. Moeller will take over the entire business sometime in the next few months, prior to the removal of Mr. Smrz and his family to Omaha in the early fall.

She moved to Marysville, KS. in 1987. There she was a member of the Calvary Ladies Friendship Circle. She volunteered her time at the nursing home there and was "Volunteer of the Year" in1994.

Nephew Bill Ehlers remembers, "In 1991 I visited with Aunt Katie in Marysville. She was then 86 years old and told me that she liked to help out the OLDER PEOPLE at the nursing home." Shealso gave me a beautiful afghan that she had made.

Katie's Mother once said that she sucked her thumb until she started school.

He registered for the draft during WW II but was declared 4-F. He then worked for farmers in the area and for his Father. After marriage he and Irene farmed near Debrie and also near Grand Coulee. Later he was able to rent and purchase more land. He raised cattle and wheat.

He was a Grange Insurance Salesman from 1955-71. He was a Master of the Delrie Grange in the 1960's.

In January of 1978, he was one of the strikers picketing the Port of Tacoma and a large grain elevator in Seattle. The Seattle strike was declared legal and they turned back trucks of wheat. At Tacoma they were picketing against importing more wheat when quotas were already filled.

He registered for the draft during WW II but was declared 4-F. He then worked for farmers in the area and for his Father. After marriage he and Irene farmed near Debrie and also near Grand Coulee. Later he was able to rent and purchase more land. He raised cattle and wheat.

KENNETH D. EHLERS OBITUARY

Kenneth D. Ehlers, 83, a long time farmer in the Del Rio area, passed away at his farm on Wednesday, June 6, 2007.

Ken was born March 27, 1924 in Leigh, Nebraska to William & Marie (Menke) Ehlers, one of three children. The Ehlers family moved from Nebraska when Ken was an infant to the Wilbur area. He attended the Govan School during some of his elementary years and graduated from Wilbur High School in 1942. Ken farmed and ranched in the Del Rio area for more then sixty years. He also farmed in Lincoln County for over forty years.

Ken was a 55 year member of the Del Rio Grange #828, member of the Washington State Cattleman’s Association, the Washington Wheat Growers and the Zion Lutheran Church. Besides being a farmer, rancher and raising five children, Ken was also a Grange Insurance agent for many years.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents William & Marie and his beloved wife of 53 years, Irene. He is survived by his daughter, Vickie Jess & husband Earl of Brewster; son Joe Ehlers & wife JoAnn of Grand Coulee; daughter Diane Jaber & husband Fred of Federal Way; daughter Cheryl Chapman & husband Steve of Coulee Dam and daughter Debbie Mertens & husband David of Spokane. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two sisters, Vera Hardung of Mesquite, NV & Lorraine Bahr of Wilbur.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 16th at 2:00 P.M. at the Spring Canyon Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Strate Funeral home in Grand Coulee.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Okanogan Home Health & Hospice at 800 South Jasmine, Suite 2, Omak, WA 98841. Please designate that the funds be used at the Grand Coulee office.
