She was a past member of the Couple's Club and a member of the Widow's Club at the church. She lived in the Platte Center and Columbus area all of her life. Survivors include two sons, Keith Stohr of Columbus and Mark Stohr of Lincoln; two brothers, Clarence Hake and Helmuth (Letha) Hake, all of Columbus; two sisters, Edna (Harold) Mohlman of Platte Center and Luetta Mohr of Lincoln. Doris moved to Norfolk and worked as a secretary at the Norfolk Jr. College until her retirement. Doris enjoyed traveling and Nebraska football. She entered the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion Aug. 20, 1996. She was a member of the church and ECLW. She enjoyed traveling. He then went to work for Lakeview High School where he was a custodian for 22 years. He was a Sunday school teacher at St. John's Lutheran Church in Leigh and St. John's Lutheran Shell Creek. He was also involved with the church choirs. When they moved into Columbus, he became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he helped with the ministry at Beverly Healthcare and Prairie Village. He coached Little League baseball at Lakeview and was a member of the Sertoma Club. Survivors include his wife; daughter Bonnie (Larry) Christensen of Columbus; two sons, Gene (Karen) Iverson of Boise, Idaho, and Michael (Corenna) Iverson of Campbell; and eight grandchildren. Edgar Cattau was born June 24, 1922 in rural Platte County, Nebraska to Herman and Lottie (Held) Cattau. He was baptized, confirmed and attended school at Christ Lutheran. Edgar was drafted into the US Army on October 7, 1942. He was in the first group of 20 year olds that were drafted from Platte County. He was in field artillery. He became disabled and was honorably discharged on November 18. Edgar and Vernetta Grotelueschen were united in marriage on August 22, 1943 at Christ Lutheran Church. Edgar worked at Behlen Manufacturing as a construction foreman for a number of years. He later went into carpentry work until he became permanently disabled in 1980. He enjoyed playing cards and was considered by many as a professional sheephead and euchre player. He was a member of the church and the American Legion, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. His family moved to a farm north of Leigh in 1912. He attended District 54 Colfax County and one year at Leigh High School. He married Meta Wiese in Fremont on April 15, 1941, in Fremont. They lived on several farms in Stanton County before purchasing the Wiese farm in 1952 northeast of Leigh. He was a member of the church, served on District 31 School Board for 12 years, and was a member of the Leigh Rural Fire Board for 28 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He retired from farming in 1976. For the last year and a half, he was a resident of Colonial Manor in Clarkson. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronald (Nancy) Mohnsen of Leigh and Allan Mohnsen of Columbus; two brothers, Earl (Phoebe) Mohnsen of Van Nuys, Calif., and Oliver (Darlene) Mohnsen of Big Stone City, S.D.; and two grandchildren. She married Elmer Heins on May 26, 1943, and they moved to Platte Center. Elmer died on Jan. 11,1944, and Leona moved to Columbus where she worked at JC Penney's and Becton-Dickinson. She married Paul Siefken on July 26, 1945. They lived on the farm north of Columbus until June 1961 when they moved to Denver, Colo. She is survived by her children, Leon, Dale & Darlynn; three grandchildren, Michael, Todd and Kimberly; six great-grandchildren, Melody, Stephen, Heath, Ashleigh, Grason, Sophie; one sister, Alice Aerni of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews. Before entering the service Rollo worked for the Anderson Greenhouse in Columbus. He married Helen Jaeggi on April 20, 1941 in Papillion, Nebraska. He entered the US Army on June 6, 1942 and was honorably discharged on December 7, 1945. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the bronze star medal for his meritorious achievement in ground combat against the armed enemy during WW II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. Rollo worked in the meat department at Hinky Dinky in Columbus. He later went to work for the REA (now known as Cornhusker Public Power) where he worked as a groundsman and lineman. Rollo was a member of the American Legion, was an avid reader, loved to play cards, work cross word puzzles and work in his yard and vegetable garden. Mr. Groteluschen was born Dec. 26, 1929, southwest of Leigh, to Charles and Elsie (Deyke) Groteluschen. He attended District 43 school in Colfax County and enlisted in the U.S. Army on Oct. 25, 1951, serving as a combat engineer during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 24, 1953. He married Margaret Cech June 2, 1955, at Leigh. They lived and farmed southeast of Creston. He was a member of the church and a former school board member of District 58 school. He enjoyed raising cattle. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Duane (Deline) Groteluschen, Jack (Leslie) Groteluschen and Mike Groteluschen, all of Creston, and Ron (Ronda) Groteluschen of Buffalo, Wyo.; two daughters, Charlene Svoboda of Columbus, and Lynelle (Duane) Byerly of Lincoln; two sisters, Paula Loeffler of Columbus and Norma Jean (Robert) Fillmer of Oakland; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Helen lived in Clarkson until 2002 when she moved to Fremont. Helen was an active member of New Zion Presbyterian Church, member of Marta Circle and a leader of church senior high fellowship. She was a church circle member in both Clarkson and Fremont. Helen was also a 4-H leader and a member of Spicy Farmerette extension club. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, gardening, traveling and her computer work, but most especially she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children, William D. TELEGRAM, August 7, 2007- FREMONT - Helen Kucera, age 95 years, of Fremont, formerly of Clarkson, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at Merrick Manor in Fremont. Funeral services for Helen will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, at New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson. Burial will be at Clarkson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in Clarkson. Visitation will resume Thursday at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Helen was born April 2, 1912, to Blahous and Anna (Stoklasa) Chleboun, at Stanton, where she grew up. On Jan. 28, 1936, she married William J. Kucera at New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson. They made their home on a farm one and one-half miles east of Clarkson. Helen lived in Clarkson until 2002 when she moved to Fremont. Helen was an active member of New Zion Presbyterian Church, member of Marta Circle and a leader of church senior high fellowship. She was a church circle member in both Clarkson and Fremont. Helen was also a 4-H leader and a member of Spicy Farmerette extension club. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, gardening, traveling and her computer work, but most especially she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children, William D. (Dee) Kucera of Herrin, Ill., Carol A. (Jack) Claton of Aurora, Colo., and Green Valley, Ariz., Janet (Don) Nosal of Fremont, Diane (Bruce) Cochrane of Fort Dodge, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Karen Hascall-Kucera of Omaha; 14 grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William who died in 1991; a son, Kendall A. Kucera; two sisters and six brothers. It was Helen's desire that memorials be made to New Zion Presbyterian Church, Clarkson opera house, Clarkson Hospitality Center or Fremont Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers. The funeral was held at the Loseke church Wednesday afternoon, the service being conducted by Rev. E. Deninger, and interment was made in the parish cemetery. She was born on the old Loseke farm southwest of town on April 4th, 1870, and at her death was 39 years, 6 months and 12 days old. On April 23rd, 1891, the deceased was united in marriage to Henry Loseke and to this union were born eight children, the oldest of whom is seventeen years of age and the youngest is but a babe of a year and a half. Mr. Bakenhus was born Feb. 28, 1918, in Platte County to Oscar and Martha (Otte) Bakenhus. He attended rural district school and also Christ Lutheran School. He married Lorraine Settgast on May 23, 1948, in rural Columbus. They farmed south of Leigh. He was very active in the church and held various church offices. He was a life-long member of the church. In February he moved to the nursing home. She married Leo Groteluschen on September 24, 1948 at her parents home near St. Edward. They made their home together on the Groteluschen family farm near Leigh. After raising their children, Donna went back to the classroom as a teacher's aide at local schools around Leigh. For the past three years, she has been working as a dietary assistant at the Colonial Manor in Clarkson, Nebraska. Donna was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh, held various offices in the local zone and district of the LWML, and was also a member of the Zion Ladies Circle. She was a member of the Merry Farmerettes Extension Club, served on the Creston Township Election Board and volunteered for the GED program in Leigh. Grotelueschen, 6-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Grotelueschen, died Sunday in a hospital in Rochester, Minn. Death was due to tumor of the brain, with which he had been suffering for the past six weeks. He had been at the hospital in Rochester for the past week and underwent an operation there Saturday, but was unable to rally. Lawrence Gernstein was born December 28, 1926 in Leigh, Nebraska to William & Louis (Feye) Gernstein. He was baptized on January 27, 1927 and confirmed on March 29, 1942 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Leigh. Lawrence attended school in Leigh and graduated from Leigh High School in 1945. He entered the U.S. Army on May 28, 1945. He served in WWII in the Military Police Unit and was honorably discharged on April 11, 1946. On September 27, 1947, Lawrence married Mercina Pimpara in Vermillion, South Dakota. They lived south of Leigh where they farmed most of their lives. Lawrence was a member of the American Legion Post #302 where he was on the honor guard for 55 years. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and fishing. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Donna Jean) Henggeler of Lincoln and Mrs. Norbert (Willa Mae) Janssen of Golden, Colo.; one son, Gayle of Columbus; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Gus Lusche of Columbus. Mrs. Loseke was born May 2, 1928, in Creston to Otto and Emma (Barjenbruch) Littleman. She grew up on a farm near Creston and attended business school in Omaha for a year. She married Ray Loseke in Topeka, Kan. In 1946, she returned to Creston for eight years. She moved to Canton from Sheridan, Wyo., after she retired in 1989. She was a member and secretary of the church and the Women of the E.L.C.A. Survivors include two sons, Terry (Vicky) Loseke of Loveland, Colo., and Dave (Nanci) Loseke of Sheridan; one daughter, Marsha (Dale) Stone of Canton; one sister, Irene Leffers of Columbus; sister-in-law Beverly (Myron) Franzen of Columbus; and five grandchildren.
