DNA Testing Completed, confirmed ancestral link found!
August 7, 2016 - 8:59:52 p.m.

Family tree research is typically done through paper documents where you attempt to work backwards in time, but you can only go so far due to lack of records or when surnames weren't used, or whatever roadblock you have ran into.

Coming from the other direction, there is DNA research.  Simple tests can determine your haplogroup and knowing that, can show your ancestral migration path out of Africa.  By doing further DNA SNP testing, you can determine your final SNP.  Having done that, I am happy to be able to confirm a close match to Gerrit Woertmann which means one time we had a common name, either Würdemann or Wörtmann.

Gerrit and I have been in conversation for years about our possible connection which has now been confirmed.  This leads to yet another plethora of possible surnames that are related to our family!

I strong enourage people to get their DNA tested to help locate unknown relatives, your own migration path, and what other branches of the greater family you are in.
